Eagles' Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith Listed as DNP Wednesday Ahead of Commanders Game

Barkley's back issue from Monday night is now on the report alongside his hamstring, and Philadelphia's top receiver is still sidelined

Saquon Barkley didn't practice Wednesday. The Eagles listed their star running back as a non-participant with hamstring and back injuries on their first injury report of the week, and wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) was a DNP as well.

Philadelphia only held a walkthrough, so the report is an estimate of what each player would have done in a full practice. Still, it's the first look at how Barkley came out of Monday night. He returned from a two-game absence with the hamstring against the Cowboys, tweaked his back on a 29-yard run in the first quarter and played just nine snaps in the 38-21 loss. He finished with seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown. Afterward he said his hamstring "came out great" and he didn't expect the back to cost him time. Listing both injuries on Wednesday suggests the team is still managing each of them.

The backfield behind him is about as thin as it gets. Dameon Pierce went on injured reserve Wednesday, joining Will Shipley, Tank Bigsby and Carson Steele, which leaves Elijah Mitchell and the newly promoted Jaydon Blue as the other options.

Smith has been out with his hamstring and missed Monday's game along with Dontayvion Wicks, who was also a DNP on Wednesday's estimate. That keeps the receiver room short-handed for an offense already playing without Jalen Hurts.

There was better news elsewhere. Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard (ankle) and outside linebacker Nolan Smith (concussion) were estimated as limited, and guard Landon Dickerson and tight end Dallas Goedert were full participants.

The 2-5 Eagles visit the 1-4-1 Commanders on Sunday night.
