Saquon Barkley Says Hamstring 'Came Out Great,' Doesn't Expect Back Issue to Sideline Him
The Eagles running back touched the ball on all nine of his snaps in the loss to Dallas before his back locked up
Saquon Barkley's hamstring held up Monday night. His back didn't, but he doesn't think it'll keep him out.
Barkley told reporters after the Eagles' 38-21 loss to the Cowboys that his "hamstring came out great" and he doesn't believe the back issue will cost him time, though he deferred to the training staff, ESPN's Tim McManus reported.
Barkley was active after missing the previous two games with the hamstring, and Philadelphia planned to limit his work. He tweaked his back on a 29-yard run in the first quarter, and it got worse as the night went on. He played just nine snaps, the last in the third quarter, and touched the ball on every one: seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, plus two catches for 9 yards.
Nick Sirianni called him "tough as heck" and said the staff probably had to slow him down.
Barkley's health matters more than usual because the Eagles' backfield is thin. Will Shipley, Tank Bigsby and Carson Steele are all on injured reserve, and Dameon Pierce left in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury, leaving the work to Elijah Mitchell, who was elevated from the practice squad for the game.
