Cardinals WR Jalen Brooks Out for Season After Emergency Wrist Surgery
Brooks had stepped into Marvin Harrison Jr.'s X receiver role after the trade, and Arizona will replace him by committee
Cardinals wide receiver Jalen Brooks will miss the rest of the season after needing "emergency surgery" on his wrist, he announced on social media Monday. Coach Mike LaFleur confirmed it and said Brooks hurt the wrist in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Broncos, then kept playing without telling anyone, ESPN's Josh Weinfuss reported.
Brooks had moved into Marvin Harrison Jr.'s role as the X receiver after Harrison was traded to the Texans on Oct. 11. All five of his catches this season, for 81 yards, came after that trade, and he was on pace for a career high.
LaFleur said the Cardinals will fill the role by committee, with rookie Reggie Virgil expected to get more snaps at the X alongside Kendrick Bourne and Simi Fehoko. That's a thin group for an offense that has already lost its top young receiver.
