Chiefs Sign Justin Tucker to Practice Squad as Insurance for Struggling Harrison Butker
The former Ravens star hasn't kicked in the NFL since 2024, but he's eligible right away after serving a 10-game suspension last season
The Chiefs are signing kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad, The Kansas City Star's Sam McDowell first reported Wednesday morning. It's Tucker's first time on an NFL roster since he served a 10-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): The #Chiefs add Justin Tucker, the 7-time Pro Bowler, to their practice squad, the first time he's signed since serving a 10-game suspension for violating the league's Personal Conduct Policy. He's insurance for Harrison Butker, who has missed 15 total kicks since the start of the 2025 season.
Harrison Butker is still on the 53-man roster, but the move is a clear signal. Butker has missed five of 16 field-goal attempts this season, including two in Sunday night's loss to the Seahawks, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport counts 15 total missed kicks for him since the start of 2025.
Kansas City worked out three kickers Tuesday and kept Tucker and Harrison Mevis around all day, giving both physicals after similarly strong workouts, Rapoport reported. Tucker's experience won out. Tucker went 30-for-30 in the workout, and because his suspension is already served, he's eligible to kick Sunday against the Broncos if the Chiefs decide to make a change.
Tucker, who turns 37 next month, made seven Pro Bowls in 13 seasons with Baltimore before the Ravens released him in May 2025. He worked out for several teams over the past year without signing until now.
