Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate): The #Titans have signed veteran P Thomas Morstead, reuniting him with Robert Saleh from their days together with the Jets. Tennessee punter Tommy Townsend suffered a knee injury Sunday vs the Browns, forcing kicker Joey Slye to handle punting duties for the remainder of the game.
Tennessee needed a punter after Tommy Townsend hurt his left knee in Sunday's game against the Browns. The punt-block rush pushed into his kicking leg, he was ruled questionable to return, and kicker Joey Slye handled the punting the rest of the way. Saleh said Monday that Townsend was still being evaluated, and the team hasn't announced anything further on his status.
Morstead, 40, is in his 18th season. He spent 12 years with the Saints and has also punted for the Jets, Falcons, Dolphins and 49ers, averaging 46.7 yards on 1,004 career punts, per the Titans' announcement. He averaged 43.6 yards with the 49ers last season and had a short stint on the Colts' practice squad earlier this month.
Signing him to the practice squad lets Tennessee elevate him for Sunday's game at Cincinnati if Townsend can't go.
