Brandon Aiyuk Meets With 49ers to Begin Path Toward a Divorce
Schefter: Aiyuk met San Francisco on Friday to start hammering out an exit more than two years in the making
Brandon Aiyuk is back at the 49ers facility — and the conversation is about how to end the marriage, not restart it. Adam Schefter reported Friday that Aiyuk met with San Francisco to begin hammering out a path toward a divorce that has been more than two years in the making.

He filed for reinstatement earlier and planned to report Friday after hiring Drew Rosenhaus to help get him back in the league. Once he is off the reserve/left squad list, the 49ers have to keep him, trade him or release him before or around Tuesday's Nov. 10 trade deadline.
A reunion on the roster looks unlikely. Kyle Shanahan has already said he has moved on from the estranged receiver and indicated he would not take part in Friday's discussions with Aiyuk and his representatives.
Money still complicates any clean exit. Aiyuk owes San Francisco roughly $13 million in bonus forfeiture, with the NFL Management Council and NFLPA involved — a dispute that may take a settlement or arbitration to unwind even if the club wants him gone.
For now there is no cut or trade on the board, only the start of negotiations Schefter framed as a long-awaited divorce track. San Francisco (6-1) hosts the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday with Aiyuk still a 49er on paper and nowhere near the active plans for Week 9.
