Saints Rookie Jordyn Tyson Could Make Debut as Soon as Next Week vs. Browns

The No. 8 overall pick hasn't played a snap since a hamstring injury put him on injured reserve, but he's getting close

The Saints may finally get a look at their first-round pick. Rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson could return from the hamstring injury that has kept him out all season as early as next week against the Browns, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday. Even if it isn't next week, Tyson is not far away from playing, according to Schefter.

New Orleans drafted Tyson out of Arizona State with the No. 8 overall pick in April, but he hurt his hamstring in August, aggravated it and has yet to take a regular-season snap. The Saints placed him on injured reserve before the opener, which meant at least four missed games, and the absence has stretched through all seven so far. General manager Mickey Loomis said on Oct. 21 that Tyson was improving and getting closer, but that he wouldn't practice that week. Tyson is still on IR, so the Saints would need to open his practice window before he can be activated.

The Saints could use the help. Chris Olave has carried the passing game with 49 catches for 636 yards and two touchdowns in seven games, while the rest of the receiver room includes Devaughn Vele, Cedric Tillman and fellow rookie Barion Brown. Adding a top-10 pick across from Olave would give the offense the second option it was supposed to have.

New Orleans is 2-5 and on its bye after a 16-10 home loss to the Steelers. The Saints host the 5-2 Browns on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. PT.
