Lions Sign LB KJ Britt Off Patriots' Practice Squad With Jack Campbell Hospitalized

Detroit adds linebacker depth to its active roster a day after Campbell was carted off with a neck injury against the Vikings

The Lions are adding a linebacker. Detroit is signing KJ Britt to its active roster off the Patriots' practice squad, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday.

Because Britt is coming off another team's practice squad, he has to go straight to the 53-man roster, and the move comes at a telling time. Jack Campbell remained in a Detroit-area hospital Monday after being carted off on a backboard with a neck injury early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 19-15 win over the Vikings. The team said preliminary indications are positive but hasn't given any timeline, and with a neck injury, football is secondary for now.

If Campbell misses time, it's a major hole in the middle of the defense. The 2023 first-round pick was an All-Pro last season, when he became the first player in seven years with 150-plus tackles, at least five sacks and three forced fumbles, and he signed a four-year extension in May that runs through 2030. Nobody replaces that production, but Britt gives Detroit another body in the linebacker room while it waits for clarity.

The win moved Detroit to 5-2 and handed Minnesota its first loss. The Lions visit the 1-6 Dolphins on Sunday.
