Ravens Sign QB Austin Reed to Practice Squad to Back Up Joe Fagnano
With Lamar Jackson headed to IR and Tyler Huntley hurt, Baltimore brought back a quarterback who spent part of training camp with the team
The Ravens found an emergency arm. Baltimore signed quarterback Austin Reed to its practice squad Monday and released fullback/tight end Lucas Scott to make room, and Reed could be the backup to rookie Joe Fagnano on Thursday night.
The move was a necessity. Lamar Jackson is headed to injured reserve after thumb surgery, and Tyler Huntley is out for the foreseeable future with a toe injury. That left Fagnano, an undrafted rookie, as the only healthy quarterback on the roster heading into a short week.

Reed is a logical fit for a quick turnaround. He spent part of training camp and the preseason with Baltimore, and he was with the Bears in 2025 when Declan Doyle, now the Ravens' offensive coordinator, was on Chicago's staff. With only two days of practice before the game, familiarity with the system matters more than anything else. Baltimore can elevate him from the practice squad on game day.
This probably isn't the end of the Ravens' quarterback shopping. Fagnano played 40 snaps in Sunday's 36-10 loss in Buffalo, and the offense managed 68 net passing yards. With the trade deadline on Nov. 10 and Jackson possibly out for the year, a veteran addition would make sense, but Reed covers the immediate need.
The 4-4 Ravens host the 5-2 Jaguars on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. PT, then the Chargers on Monday night the following week.
