Cardinals Trading QB Jacoby Brissett to Ravens After Jackson, Huntley Injuries

Baltimore lands a veteran starter after losing Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley, and Brissett is expected to debut against the Chargers on Nov. 16

The Ravens have their answer at quarterback. Arizona is finalizing a trade that sends Jacoby Brissett to Baltimore, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday, with the deal expected to be completed this weekend.

Compensation hasn't been reported yet. Because the deal won't be finalized in time, Brissett won't play Thursday night against Jacksonville. Schefter said he's expected to debut in Week 10, when the Ravens host the Chargers on Monday night, Nov. 16.

Baltimore needed a veteran badly. Lamar Jackson is headed to injured reserve for thumb surgery, and Tyler Huntley's turf toe ended his season. That left undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano as the starter, with Austin Reed and Kedon Slovis signed this week as depth. Fagnano still starts Thursday against the 5-2 Jaguars, with the Ravens sitting at 4-4.

Brissett also knows someone in the building. Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork previously held the same job in Arizona and worked with him there.

For Arizona, the move closes a fast fall. Brissett opened the year as the starter and started eight games, but he was pulled in Dallas after Gardner Minshew rallied the Cardinals to an overtime win, then dropped to third string behind Minshew and rookie Carson Beck. As Ari Meirov noted, Brissett doesn't have an agent and negotiated his own reworked deal this summer, worth $15.5 million guaranteed and up to $21 million.

He's now headed to his seventh NFL team, and this is the second time in his career he's been traded. In Baltimore, he steps in for a team trying to save its season.
