Gardner Minshew Comes Off the Bench to Lead Cardinals Past Cowboys in Overtime

Minshew threw three touchdowns after replacing Jacoby Brissett, and Arizona rallied from 17-3 down for a 33-30 win in Dallas

Arizona's quarterback change paid off in a big way. Gardner Minshew replaced Jacoby Brissett late in the third quarter with the Cardinals down 17-3, and he led four straight touchdown drives in a 33-30 overtime win over the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. Chad Ryland kicked a 42-yard field goal in overtime to win it.

Minshew finished 17-of-23 for 188 yards and three touchdowns. The benching came after a rough first half from Brissett, as we covered in our earlier story, and the offense came to life right away once Minshew took over.

Dallas still looked in control for most of the fourth quarter. Tyler Allgeier, who ripped off a 63-yard touchdown run, finished with 147 rushing yards, 44 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and the Cowboys led 24-10 in the fourth and 27-17 with under four minutes left. Minshew hit Trey McBride for a 14-yard score to cut it to 27-24 with 2:11 left. Dallas answered with a field goal to go up 30-24 with 1:09 left, and Arizona had no timeouts. Minshew then drove the Cardinals down the field and found Michael Wilson for the tying touchdown with six seconds left. Ryland missed the extra point that would have won it in regulation, then made up for it in overtime. Wilson finished with 111 receiving yards.

Arizona improves to 3-5 and has now beaten the Cowboys nine times in 10 meetings since 2008. Dallas falls to 3-5. Head coach Mike LaFleur hasn't said who will start next week yet. With the comeback and Brissett's struggles, though, the question is fair: Minshew looks like he could take over the job.
