Jerry Jones Says Another Cowboys Trade Is 'Unlikely' Before the Deadline

Fresh off a win over the Eagles, Dallas' owner wants more defensive help but doesn't expect a deal to come together before Nov. 10

Jerry Jones wants to add to his defense. He just doesn't think it's going to happen.

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, the Cowboys owner and general manager said Dallas would make another move if the right one were there, but he called it unlikely before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, as NBC Sports' Josh Alper wrote.

"If we could do it where we sit right now, I would add to it. But the adding to it is a big statement. It's unlikely we'll get the opportunity from outside coming in. But if it's there, I'll do it."

That's a notable shift in tone from an owner who has spent the fall talking openly about bolstering the defense. Dallas has already been aggressive, trading for Rashan Gary and Dee Winters and acquiring cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Steelers on Sept. 30 for a 2028 second-round pick. Jones called Porter a "shutdown corner" on the radio.

The defense is still the issue. Jones said it's "really not where we expected it to be," and even in Monday's 38-21 win over the Eagles it gave up 321 yards. He said the unit needs to create more pressure on the quarterback, which is why pass rushers like Arizona's Josh Sweat keep coming up in trade talk around the team.

Draft capital is part of the problem. Dallas already sent its 2027 first-round pick to the Jets for Quinnen Williams at last year's deadline, which limits what it can offer now.

The win moved the Cowboys to 3-4 and kept them in the NFC East race. They host the Cardinals on Sunday.
