Theo Mackie (@theo_mackie): Nine absences from Cardinals practice today, including a new toe injury for RB Tyler Allgeier and a new knee injury for RT Elijah Wilkinson. RB Jeremiyah Love, CB Max Melton, S Andrew Wingard all return to practice, as LaFleur anticipated on Monday. Full injury report:
Love was ruled out against the Rams on Oct. 18 and sat a second straight game against Denver last Sunday. The Cardinals won the first of those, 18-16 in Los Angeles, and lost the second 30-16, dropping them to 2-5.
It's been a stop-and-start rookie year for him. Ankle trouble goes back to August, when he suffered a high ankle sprain that cost him the rest of the preseason, and he was still limited heading into the opener. In five games he has 67 carries for 245 yards (3.7 per carry) and a touchdown, plus 11 catches for 36 yards and another score. His busiest day came at San Francisco in Week 3, when he ran 21 times for 90 yards and caught all five of his targets.
His timing matters more now because the backfield behind him took a hit Wednesday. Tyler Allgeier, who opened the season atop the depth chart ahead of Love, did not practice with a new toe injury, per Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. Right tackle Elijah Wilkinson also picked up a new knee injury and was one of nine absences.
A limited Wednesday is a starting point, not a guarantee. Thursday and Friday's reports will show whether Love can handle a full workload when Arizona visits the Cowboys on Sunday.
