Schefter Thinks DeForest Buckner Goes Next

The Colts didn't stop taking calls after trading Quenton Nelson. ESPN's Adam Schefter, who said on The Pat McAfee Show that the Colts most likely to move are Downs, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and defensive tackle Grover Stewart, with Buckner the one he expects to be dealt next.
Buckner fits the same pattern. ESPN's Stephen Holder noted that the 32-year-old is in the final year of his deal and seemingly frustrated with the Colts' situation, and because he's a veteran of 10-plus seasons, the most Indianapolis could recoup if he walks is a fifth-round compensatory pick. That's a strong reason to take a real offer now.
Jonathan Taylor is a different case. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo said the star running back isn't a lock to be traded and, agreeing with Schefter, that it's "looking like a no" as of now, though he added there are still two weeks for minds to change. The Colts signed Taylor to an extension through 2028 during training camp, and Holder reported he's already been discussed internally by multiple teams.
The Colts are 2-5, fired GM Chris Ballard last week and don't own their 2027 first-round pick, which went to the Jets in the Sauce Gardner trade. That's why picks for expiring veterans are so appealing. Nelson went to Seattle for a 2027 third and a 2028 fifth (our story on the deal), and the deadline is Nov. 10.
