The Houston Texans placed cornerback Jaylin Smith on injured reserve Tuesday, a move that sidelines the defensive back for at least the next four weeks.
Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL): #Texans corner Jaylin Smith has a Grade 2 hamstring injury, per a league source. Although placed on injured reserve, there is a scenario where he can return later this season.
Smith's hamstring injury is a Grade 2 strain, per a league source, and he received second medical opinions before the team made the IR designation. While the move costs him a minimum of four games, the Texans' beat reported there is a scenario in which Smith can return later this season once he is eligible to come off injured reserve.
The Texans also released wide receiver Treyvhon Saunders from the practice squad in a corresponding move, the team announced.
Smith has been part of Houston's cornerback rotation this season, and his absence thins a secondary that has leaned on its depth through the early weeks of the regular season. The Texans open Week 5 on the road this weekend.
