The Ravens' promising rookie wideout is headed to the shelf. Baltimore is placing Ja'Kobi Lane on injured reserve after he underwent surgery on the fractured wrist he suffered in the season opener, moving the young receiver out of the lineup for at least the next four games.

The procedure is designed to speed up the healing process; with Lane out for four games, the rookie should be back around the time he is first eligible to return. That is a tough break for a rookie who was set to play a meaningful early-season role in the offense before the injury cut his debut short. Baltimore had already been managing its receiver room carefully, with Zay Flowers listed as day-to-day, so losing Lane for a month puts more strain on the depth chart. The Ravens will now reshuffle their pass-catching rotation as they look to keep the offense on track while their young wideout recovers.
