The 49ers' injury bill from the opener keeps growing. Rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling is headed to injured reserve after hurting his ankle, sidelining him for at least the next four games.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): 49ers rookie WR De'Zhaun Stribling is being placed on injured reserve due to his ankle injury, sidelining him at least four games, per sources.
Stribling was hurt in last Thursday's season-opening win over the Rams, part of a physical Australia trip that also produced special-teams work from practice-squad elevation KhaDarel Hodge. With Stribling now ticketed for a month-plus absence, San Francisco moved quickly to restock the room by promoting Hodge to the active roster.
For a rookie trying to carve out a role, the timing stings: September snaps are how first-year receivers earn trust, and four weeks on the shelf pauses that process entirely. The 49ers, at least, have a ready-made replacement in Hodge, who already contributed two tackles in the opener and now gets a full-time roster spot while Stribling recovers.
