Jets' Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Says He Was Benched and Fined for Missing Meetings
New York's starting nickelback was inactive for the loss to Miami after missing more than one mandatory meeting, but he expects to play Sunday against the Raiders
Jets nickelback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. was benched last Sunday and fined by the team for missing multiple mandatory meetings, he told ESPN's Rich Cimini on Thursday.
Brownlee said he missed "more than one" meeting and was notified of the fine in a letter from the team, though he couldn't recall the amount. He didn't push back on the punishment.
Asked why he missed the meetings, Brownlee said only, "It was just something in-house, some things I had to get right." Coach Aaron Glenn had declined to explain the benching earlier in the week, saying he wanted to keep the reason in-house.
Brownlee is the Jets' starting nickel, and he was inactive for the 28-25 loss to the Dolphins. Rookie D'Angelo Ponds took his spot in the slot. Brownlee has 14 tackles and a sack in six games this season, playing 241 defensive snaps.
New York got Brownlee and a 2026 seventh-round pick from the Titans early in the 2025 season for a 2026 sixth-rounder. Tennessee drafted him in the fifth round in 2024, and he has appeared in 13 games for the Jets.
The discipline lands at a rough moment for a 2-5 team that can't afford to lose starters in the secondary. Brownlee said he's "good" for this week, and indications are he'll be active Sunday when the Jets host the Raiders (3-4).
