Joe Mixon's anticipated move to Seattle is off: the Seahawks decided not to sign the veteran running back to their practice squad after he underwent a physical for the team, per Adam Schefter. Mixon will remain a free agent.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): As it turns out, the Seahawks decided not to sign veteran running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he underwent a physical for the team, per league source. Mixon will remain a free agent.
The development reverses a report from Monday that had Seattle planning to bring Mixon aboard to bolster its backfield depth after placing rookie running back Jaylen Price on injured reserve. Mixon, an eight-year veteran who spent last season with Houston, had been viewed as a logical addition given the Seahawks' need for options behind their lead back.
With the physical apparently raising a roadblock, Seattle will continue to sort out its running back rotation without Mixon. The 30-year-old remains available on the open market, and the failed physical could factor into how he is viewed as teams evaluate him going forward this season.
