Raiders believe RB Ashton Jeanty sprained his ankle; injury not considered long-term

After leaving Sunday's practice unable to put weight on his right leg, Jeanty is believed to have a sprained ankle. The Raiders are unsure of the timeline but are relieved it is not a long-term issue.

The scare surrounding Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty appears to have a manageable outcome. After Jeanty was helped off the practice field Sunday and could not put weight on his right leg, the team believes he sprained his ankle — and, critically, the organization does not view it as a long-term injury.

Jeanty went down awkwardly during a practice rep and was down for a spell before trainers helped him off. The Raiders have not put a firm timetable on his return, but Schefter reported the club is "breathing a sigh of relief tonight" given how grim the moment initially looked. Las Vegas declined to comment on the specifics.

The 2026 first-round pick is central to Las Vegas's plans; the Raiders had been excited about the one-two punch of Jeanty and Mike Washington Jr. this summer. A sprain that costs him only part of the preseason would be a far better result than the knee/leg fears that flashed when he left the field. The team will evaluate him day to day heading into the final week of camp.
