Report: Panthers place WR Xavier Legette on injured reserve with knee injury

The Panthers are reportedly placing wide receiver Xavier Legette on injured reserve with a knee injury. Legette's move follows an injury sustained on a 55-yard catch in Carolina's Week 2 win over Atlanta. He will miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return.

The timing extends a difficult run of injuries for Carolina, and removes one of the team's young outside receiving options from the lineup for at least a month. Person reported that the team had not expected to need the IR move as recently as Friday, underscoring how the situation changed.

Legette had two catches in that Week 2 game, including the long reception on which he was hurt; his only other catch this season was a nine-yard reception in the same contest. The Panthers will have to cover his snaps with the remaining receivers while he works back from the knee issue.
