The Panthers are opening up the 21-day practice window for offensive tackle Taylor Moton and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton, head coach Dave Canales said Monday, as Carolina returns from its bye week.
Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN): The Panthers are opening up the 21-day practice window for OT Taylor Moton and DL Tershawn Wharton, per Carolina head coach Dave Canales.
Opening the window starts the clock on a 21-day period in which both players can practice with the team before the Panthers must either activate them to the 53-man roster or leave them on injured reserve for the season. Moton gives Carolina's offensive line its long-time anchor back at right tackle, while Wharton is a key piece of the interior rotation up front.
The timing is meaningful coming out of a bye: the Panthers get an extra week of recovery work before returning to the field, and getting veterans back on the practice field now gives the coaching staff clear picture of who will be available for the stretch ahead. Both players' returns would be a boost for a Carolina roster that has managed injuries along both lines through the early part of the season.
