The Jacksonville Jaguars moved quickly to shore up their snapping situation Monday, signing veteran long snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer and freeing nose tackle DaVon Hamilton to return to his regular job after a memorable cameo on the other side of the Atlantic.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): Long snapper news: The #Jaguars are signing NFL veteran LS Jacob Bobenmoyer as their new long snapper, which means DT DaVon Hamilton can return to his day job. He's already flown to London. Hamilton filled in admirably for injured Ross Matiscik, which won't be placed on IR.
Hamilton, the Jaguars' starting nose tackle, was pressed into emergency long-snapper duty in London on Sunday after starter Ross Matiscik was injured on his very first snap. Hamilton — who said he had barely practiced the craft — delivered a clean snap on Cam Little's game-winning field goal as time expired, helping the Jaguars to a 19-17 win over the Eagles. He acknowledged the stakes were high, telling reporters simply: "You've got to do a job? Get it done. It worked out."
Matiscik avoided injured reserve, meaning the Jaguars expect him back in the near term. But with the team still in London and the roster already stretched, they added Bobenmoyer — a veteran NFL long snapper — who has already flown to London to join the team. The move returns Hamilton to his natural position in the interior of the defensive line, where the Jaguars have leaned on him as a core member of their front this season.
