Falcons haven't settled on a Week 2 quarterback as Penix ramps up
The Falcons have not named a Week 2 starter, with Tua Tagovailoa out, Michael Penix Jr. ramping up, and Cooper Rush the likely choice again

Atlanta still doesn't know who its quarterback will be on Sunday. Head coach Kevin Stefanski declined to name a starter for the Week 2 home game against Carolina at his Wednesday press conference, keeping every option open with Tua Tagovailoa sidelined and Michael Penix Jr. working his way back.

Tagovailoa, meanwhile, will not practice Wednesday because of an oblique injury, while Cooper Rush is expected to be on the field even as he receives treatment for his back. Rush started the opener after Tagovailoa and Penix were ruled out, and Penix, coming off last season's torn ACL, acknowledged last week he does not feel all the way back yet. Stefanski insisted nobody is ruled out, even floating undrafted rookie Jack Strand when asked, but the tea leaves point to another Rush start before Thursday night's trip to Green Bay. "We will have a quarterback for this week," Stefanski said. "Not yet, but we'll work through that this week. . . . I'm not ruling anyone out."
