Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones delivered a strong vote of confidence for Brian Schottenheimer on Monday, saying there is no doubt in ownership's mind about the head coach.
Jon Machota (@jonmachota): Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan said they "absolutely" believe in Brian Schottenheimer. "There's not any question in Jerry and my mind. He has the team. There's no question they want to go out there and execute and make things happen. Feel really good about our coaching staff. We just got to have it continue to evolve and get to a point to where we can win these football games."
Speaking to 105.3 The Fan, Jones said he and Jerry have "absolutely" not questioned Schottenheimer's standing. "There's not any question in Jerry and my mind. He has the team," Jones said. The EVP said the Cowboys feel good about the coaching staff and simply need the operation to continue to evolve so the team can win games, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Schottenheimer, when asked about the public endorsement, said he is focused on the process of turning things around.
"Certainly not good enough. We're disappointed with where we're at. We know we need to play better," the coach said, while insisting Dallas has the right personnel to do so. The comments come as the Cowboys look to steady themselves after a rough stretch to open the season.
