Joey Porter Jr. poised to make Cowboys debut Sunday vs. Texans

New Cowboys cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is poised to make his 2026 season debut Sunday when Dallas hosts the Houston Texans, Adam Schefter reported, and the beat-level detail backs it up.

Porter carries no injury designation into Sunday's game and will be available to make his Cowboys debut, per Dallas beat writer Todd Archer. Speaking on 105.3 The Fan after Friday's practice, executive vice president Stephen Jones said, "We actually think Joey Porter will get snaps."

The cornerback was ruled out of Thursday's game between his former club, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Cleveland Browns after saying his back was tight, but he practiced the last two days without issue. Porter was acquired from the Steelers this week in a deal that also sent receiver George Pickens and tackle Broderick Jones to Dallas. Jones let on Friday that Pittsburgh's initial asking price for Porter had been "a little hefty" before the sides settled on a deal.

His arrival gives the Cowboys a needed boost in the secondary while the Steelers, now thin at cornerback, head into a Week 4 slate without him after the midweek reshuffle. Dallas' own injury report had Cobie Durant and DeMarvion Overshown ruled out, though Malik Hooker is back — meaning the staff will lean on Porter's snaps in a game they believe the newcomer is ready to play.
