The Washington Commanders will be without their leading rusher when they host the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night, with head coach Dan Quinn ruling out running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt due to a groin injury.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt won’t play Monday against the San Francisco 49ers because of a groin injury.
The groin issue is a recurrence of the same problem that sidelined Croskey-Merritt during training camp. He missed practice all week, leaving Washington's backfield in a precarious spot for the prime-time matchup.
The Commanders are also dealing with injuries to Rachaad White (shoulder) and Austin Ekeler (chest), though both have been practicing and could be available. Washington may also activate Jeremy McNichols from injured reserve to add depth.
Beyond the running back room, the Commanders will also be without linebacker Javontae Jean-Baptiste (pectoral), defensive end Charles Omenihu (groin, ankle), and quarterback Marcus Mariota (knee). The team's full injury report is expected later Saturday.
Croskey-Merritt has been Washington's most consistent offensive weapon this season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry and providing a physical presence out of the backfield. His absence puts additional pressure on a passing attack facing a 49ers defense that ranks among the league leaders in pressure rate.
