Colts WR Keenan Allen formally charged with two OWI misdemeanors

Three weeks after his late-night arrest, Keenan Allen's case is now formally in the court system. Indianapolis prosecutors on Tuesday charged the Colts receiver with two alcohol-related misdemeanors, including the more serious count triggered by a .224 blood-alcohol reading.

The details come from the probable-cause affidavit: an Indianapolis sergeant encountered Allen around 1 a.m. on Aug. 30 after Allen parked in a no-parking zone, reported a strong odor of alcohol, and administered testing that produced the .224 result at 1:22 a.m. Allen also showed signs of intoxication on a field-sobriety test, officers said. For now, Allen's Sundays are unaffected. Coach Shane Steichen said Wednesday the Colts will let the legal process play out, and Allen is not expected to miss playing time while the case proceeds. The longer shadow is the league office: NFL rules carry a three-game baseline for substance-abuse violations, with stiffer penalties at higher intoxication levels, though discipline typically waits for adjudication. The 34-year-old, who joined Indianapolis on a one-year deal in August and caught six passes in his debut, now plays under that cloud.
