The opener produced eight touchdowns and a field goal, with two punts, a fumble and a turnover on downs making up the rest of the afternoon. Williams described the group's standard as full efficiency, saying the Bears hold themselves to scoring on every possession rather than most of them.
No team in the league scored on even half its possessions last season, so a score on every drive is not a realistic weekly benchmark, and Williams surely knows it. What the comment does capture is the confidence coming out of a Week 1 in which the offense was rarely off the field without points.
It also sets a public bar for a quarterback entering a season with real expectations attached. Chicago gets its next chance to measure against that bar in Week 2, and the gap between nine-of-14 and perfection is the one the staff will be managing all year.
