Tennessee Titans CEO Burke Nihill has apologized to fans and expressed support for Robert Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi, according to Titans reporter Turron Davenport. His message addressed the club's leadership as well as the people frustrated with its direction.
Turron Davenport (@TDavenport_NFL): #Titans Burke Nihill apologizes to fans, supports Robert Saleh, GM Mike Borgonzi https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50198584/titans-ceo-apologizes-fans-supports-robert-saleh-gm
Nihill also acknowledged that fans want to be heard and said he would like to do better. Davenport reported that Nihill pointed to attending a Two Tone Nation tailgate and bringing one of its chants into the stadium as an example of responding to supporters.
On the question of who makes football calls, Nihill drew a line around his position: Davenport reported that Borgonzi communicates football decisions to Amy Adams-Strunk, while Nihill communicates business decisions to her. That distinction matters when assessing what Nihill's endorsement of the football staff does—and does not—say about his own role in those decisions.
Turron Davenport (@TDavenport_NFL): #Titans CEO Burke Nihill said he is not involved in football decisions. The final line of communication on football decisions goes from Mike Borgonzi to Amy Adams-Strunk. The business decisions flow from Nihill to Amy Adams-Strunk.
