Texans sign former Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn
Houston adds the compact veteran running back to its backfield competition a week before cutdowns to 53.
The Texans are adding a familiar name to their running back room with cutdown week underway. Houston has signed former Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn, giving the veteran back a fresh landing spot for the final week of the preseason.
My Sports Update (@MySportsUpdate): The #Texans have signed former Dallas Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn.
Vaughn, one of the smallest backs in the league at 5-foot-5, spent his first two seasons in Dallas after the Cowboys made him a feel-good sixth-round pick in 2023 — reuniting him with his father, a member of the club's scouting department. He has since bounced in search of a steady role, and Houston's preseason backfield has been thinned by injuries, making this a low-risk look with cuts to 53 not due until Aug. 30.
Whether Vaughn gets carries in Houston's preseason finale or goes straight into the evaluation film room, the signing is a classic late-August depth swing: cheap, experienced and easy to part ways with if the numbers don't work.
