The Steelers are adding veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who plans to sign with the practice squad and reunite with Aaron Rodgers for a second straight season in Pittsburgh, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
Mike DeFabo (@MikeDeFabo): Veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling plans to sign with the Steelers, a league source told @TheAthletic. The expectation is the 31 year old will begin on the practice squad. Second year in a row he's reuniting with Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh.
Valdes-Scantling, 31, was released by the Chargers over the weekend after spending the early part of this season in Los Angeles. He caught 10 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in five games with the Steelers last season, and he spent four seasons catching passes from Rodgers in Green Bay from 2018-21.
The reunion gives Pittsburgh experienced depth at a position that has taken hits this season — the Steelers are without three of their top five wideouts, including Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson on injured reserve. With Rodgers at quarterback and a receiver room in flux, Valdes-Scantling provides a familiar, trusted option who knows the offense's verbiage and the veteran signal-caller's tendencies.
