The Steelers' first injury report of the season has one name on it: Joey Porter Jr. The cornerback was listed as limited in Wednesday's practice with a back injury ahead of Sunday's opener against the Falcons.
Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly): Joey Porter Jr. was limited in practice today (back) according to the injury report.
The listing is the latest wrinkle in Porter's ongoing standoff with the Steelers over a second contract. He missed all of training camp on the physically unable to perform list before passing a physical and being added to the roster when the limit moved from 90 to 53. Pittsburgh's in-house policy is to stop negotiating once the regular season begins, and the sides were described as "not close" on an offer as recently as Tuesday night — so any lingering back issue adds another variable to the equation.
At this time, it's not clear if this is a real injury that would keep him out or if this is more of a hold-in before the season officially starts. With Christian Gonzalez and the Patriots signing a record extension just before their opening game. The pressure was put even more on the Steelers Organization.
