Sam Darnold's hip issue is more specific than a clean bill of health. Tests showed the quarterback has an unusual muscle strain in his hip area, with no consideration of injured reserve at this point, per Tom Pelissero.

Darnold suffered the injury five snaps into Wednesday night's season-opening win over the Patriots and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Seattle initially called the setback a hip injury, and the team said Thursday he dodged the worst-case scenarios while still expecting him to miss time.

The encouraging part for Seattle is that IR is not on the table, which leaves the door open for a return later in the season rather than a multi-week mandatory absence. His timetable to return remains TBD as the team monitors how the strain responds.
