The 49ers' rookie wideout is dealing with an injury scare in his first NFL game. De'Zhaun Stribling was carted to the locker room late in the first half of San Francisco's opener against the Rams after limping through the early part of the night with what appeared to be a foot or ankle injury, per Ian Rapoport.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): #49ers rookie WR De'Zhaun Stribling was just carted to the locker room after limping through the first half with what appeared to be a foot or ankle injury.
Stribling's night was already a roller-coaster before the cart. He hurt his ankle early in his debut and was initially listed as questionable to return, only to come back onto the field before leaving again just before halftime. Stribling was carted off with one sock off after that second exit.
The loss of Stribling is a notable blow for a 49ers receiver room still sorting out its depth behind the starters. The rookie came out of training camp on a high note, earning praise from Brock Purdy for how quickly he picked up the offense, and tonight marked his first regular-season action. The team's medical staff will evaluate him at halftime, with the severity of the ankle or foot injury and his availability for the rest of the game still to be determined.
