New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has been playing through a significant left-hand injury since Week 4, with two broken bones in his non-throwing hand that are expected to take several more weeks to heal.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has been playing with two broken bones in his left hand, sources told ESPN.
Shough suffered the injury in the Saints' Week 4 loss to the Falcons but has not missed a snap. He has been taping his ring and pinky fingers together on his left hand and wearing additional protection on it. The injury forced him to switch to his right hand for handoffs during last Sunday's loss to the Vikings.
The Saints face the Giants at MetLife Stadium today, with a scheduled Week 7 game against the Steelers at Stade de France in Paris next Sunday before a bye week. The left-hand issue adds another layer of difficulty for a New Orleans offense that has already dealt with injuries to running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Chris Olave. Shough's availability has not been questioned, but the long-term management of the fractures will be a subplot to watch during the Saints' upcoming stretch.
