Chargers left tackle Joe Alt is closing in on a return after getting good news from a specialist this week on the neck injury that has sidelined him for multiple games.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): #Chargers OT Joe Alt, who has missed a couple games with a neck injury, received good news after a visit to a specialist this week, sources say. Alt is expected to ramp up this week, with a return to the field coming.
Alt has missed the Chargers' last two games with a neck issue that landed him on the injury report as out. His absence left a significant hole on the left side of Los Angeles' offensive line, with the Chargers turning to rookie left guard Logan Clark as the primary blind-side protector for quarterback Bryce Young. Young was sacked six times in Week 5 against the Browns.
The Chargers (3-2) face the Cardinals today in Week 6. Alt is not expected back for this game, but the timeline points toward a possible return for the team's Week 7 matchup or shortly after. Alt's return would reunite the Chargers' preferred offensive line configuration alongside right tackle Zion Johnson, giving the unit a much-needed boost after a stretch of shuffled personnel.
