Sean McVay followed through Tuesday on his promise to overhaul the Rams' kicking operation, with the team releasing kicker Harrison Mevis and signing Blake Grupe off the Jets' practice squad, per Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

The move comes a day after the Rams' 37-34 overtime loss to the Bills, when the kicking unit's troubles — including a blocked field goal — helped decide the game. McVay said afterward that the PAT/field goal operation was "not even close to good enough" and that it "cost us the game," setting up the shakeup that arrived roughly 12 hours later.

Grupe, who kicked earlier in his career in Indianapolis, was claimed off waivers by the Jets when rosters were cut to 53 and never kicked for them before landing on their practice squad.

The reunion with his old organization extends beyond geography: special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone was with the Colts during Grupe's time there, though the two were never in Indianapolis at the same time. Mevis, meanwhile, is now available on the open market after his brief run atop the Rams' depth chart ended on the heels of Monday night's miss.

Los Angeles now turns the page on Monday night's defeat with a reworked kicking operation. The group has been a recurring problem under McVay and general manager Les Snead, and the club made clear with this move that it is done waiting on it to fix itself.
