The NFL officially suspended Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson for two games without pay Tuesday, formalizing the discipline for punching Buffalo Bills outside linebacker Bradley Chubb after Monday night's 37-34 overtime loss.

Jackson becomes eligible to return to the Rams' active roster on Monday, October 26, meaning he will miss Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals and the October 25 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. The league's announcement cited Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 — the provision covering acts contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship — and noted the incident occurred as players were shaking hands and exchanging jerseys after the game.

Under the collective bargaining agreement, Jackson may appeal the suspension, with any appeal heard by one of the jointly appointed hearing officers: Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera or James Thrash. The ban lands on top of an already turbulent 24 hours for the Rams' roster, which also released kicker Harrison Mevis after his missed extra point and field goal loomed large in the overtime loss and signed Blake Grupe off the Jets' practice squad to replace him.

With Jackson out for the next two weeks, the Rams will lean on their offensive line depth to protect Matthew Stafford's blind side. Jackson had started all five games this season.
