Carolina Panthers right tackle Taylor Moton returned to padded practice Tuesday for the first time since a frightening summer health ordeal that sidelined him well into the season — one that began when he started coughing up blood.

Moton described the episode to reporters as a scary situation that included a life-threatening blood pressure reading and what he called a lot of clots. He is now off blood thinners and feeling good about being back, preparing as if he will play.

The return is a major step for the Panthers' offensive line. Moton, one of the team's longest-tenured starters, had been sidelined while recovering, and Carolina officially designated him to return from injured reserve Tuesday alongside running back Trevor Etienne and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton. The coaching staff will now monitor how Moton responds to full-speed work as he builds back toward game readiness.
