Aaron Donald's Week 2 status 'TBD' — McVay noncommittal on Giants matchup

Sean McVay is in no hurry to reveal whether Aaron Donald's comeback game comes Monday night.

The Rams coach said Monday that the team hasn't decided whether Donald will play against the Giants in Week 2. "We haven't decided that yet," McVay told reporters, including ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "He's going to continue to work his process and we'll see what that looks like."

Donald did not travel with the Rams for their eventual season-opening loss to the 49ers in Melbourne, so Monday would be his first game action since he came out of retirement to return for another season in Los Angeles. A defense that just lost Myles Garrett for at least four games to knee surgery could use him immediately — the 49ers put up 379 yards, 23 first downs and 7-of-12 on third down against Los Angeles in the opener.

The Rams' pass-rush numbers were not good they blitzed on just 11.1% of drop-backs against San Francisco, tied for second-fewest in the league in Week 1, and generated pressure on only 22.2% of pass plays — third-worst in the NFL, per TruMedia — with Garrett unable to be himself.

A decision on Donald is expected to shape itself through the practice week. What is already decided: Monday night's NFC matchup with a Giants team coming off an emotional win over the Cowboys is suddenly must-see for reasons beyond the standings — the potential first look at a Hall of Fame talent back in a Rams uniform, opposite the franchise's newest era under John Harbaugh.
