Jim Harbaugh's week-after self-scout produced a pointed admission: the Chargers head coach says he should have played his starters more in the preseason, believing the additional reps could have helped after watching Los Angeles fall to Arizona in Week 1.

"We made some preseason-type mistakes," Harbaugh said, framing Sunday's loss to the Cardinals as a product of a group still knocking off rust. The Chargers were beaten at home by a Cardinals team coached by first-year man Mike LaFleur.

The admission comes with injury Ladd McConkey (ribs) is day-to-day after taking a hard hit Sunday, and Harbaugh also noted Elijah Molden (hamstring) is day-to-day while KeAndre Lambert-Smith (hamstring) will miss time.

The league-wide trend has been to sit starters for most of August usually to prevent injuries but with injuries from game and sloppy play. Harbaugh now second-guessing his offseason
