The Rams got Puka Nacua back on the practice field Wednesday, but they were missing one of the most important pieces of their defense. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald was kept out of the session with a sore back, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Sarah Barshop (@sarahbarshop): Aaron Donald won't practice today. Sean McVay said Donald is dealing with a sore back.
McVay declined to speculate on whether Donald is at any risk of missing Sunday's game in Philadelphia, saying the team is "just taking it a day at a time." He acknowledged the back is "a little bit sore," while emphasizing the future Hall of Famer is "as tough as it gets" and that he'll "continue to have updates as the week goes."
Donald did not play in Week 1 while still ramping up after deciding to come out of retirement late in the summer. He has appeared in the last two games, recording four tackles, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit combined.
The timing is freighted because the Rams face the Eagles on the road Sunday, and Philadelphia has made its passing game a priority with a short week to prepare. Los Angeles needs its front to generate pressure against the Eagles' protection, and Donald's availability would factor heavily into that plan. The team also welcomes Nacua back to practice this week as it tries to even its record at 2-2.
