Patriots rule TreVeyon Henderson out for Wednesday's opener against Seahawks

New England's top running back is officially sidelined for the season opener in Seattle, with Rhamondre Stevenson in line to lead the backfield

TreVeyon Henderson will not play in Wednesday night's season opener: the Patriots officially ruled the running back out for the game against the Seahawks on Tuesday due to his ankle injury, per Ari Meirov, with Rhamondre Stevenson in line as the team's lead back.

Henderson has not practiced since Aug. 24, and while he avoided a downgrade when the Patriots left for Seattle on Monday — a sign he had traveled with the team — the final injury report closed the door. With Henderson out, Stevenson and Corey Kiner are the healthy running backs on New England's 53-man roster, and Hassan Haskins and Lan Larison are available as practice-squad elevations. The club also remains without a punter on the active roster and is expected to summon Mitch Wishnowsky from the practice squad for the opener. Backup lineman Ben Brown was already ruled out with a knee injury, and no other Patriots carried a game designation.
