Josh Jacobs will immediately return as Packers starting running back next week at Detroit

After missing three games while on the Commissioner's Exempt List, Jacobs is set to reclaim his role atop Green Bay's backfield

The Packers are set to welcome Josh Jacobs back as their starting running back for next week's game at Detroit, per Tom Pelissero.

Jacobs has missed the last three games while on the Commissioner's Exempt List following a May altercation in Green Bay that resulted in charges against the back. The NFL placed him on the exempt list in late September, sidelining him while the legal process and a league investigation played out.

The Packers' backfield has managed admirably without him. Rookie Mar'Sean Argent operated as the lead ball carrier in Jacobs' absence and has averaged 4.6 yards per carry, but Green Bay's offense has missed the physical, between-tackles presence that defined Jacobs' first two seasons with the team. The Packers rank 18th in rushing yards per game over the last three weeks after finishing ninth through the first month.

The timing of Jacobs' return aligns with Green Bay's toughest defensive test of the season. The Lions rank sixth in rush defense EPA and lead the league in tackles for loss. Getting Jacobs back for that matchup gives the Packers the short-yardage power they've lacked against Detroit's aggressive front seven.

Pelissero also noted in the same report that Micah Parsons — acquired by the Packers in a major offseason trade with the Cowboys — still isn't ready to practice, making it unlikely the star edge rusher plays before Nov. 8 against the Patriots at the earliest.
