The woman involved in Josh Jacobs' May 23 altercation filed a restraining order against the Hobart/Lawrence (Ind.) police department on Wednesday to block the release of records, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. It was the latest legal twist in a case that has kept the Packers running back on the NFL's commissioner exempt list since late August.

The filing comes as Jacobs pursues his own civil suit seeking a permanent injunction restricting access to records and video from the incident — the lawsuit the running back lodged in response to the police department's determination that certain records could be released with redactions, subject to appeals. His suit, reported earlier Thursday, was the reason a judge had turned the release question over to police rather than sealing the evidence permanently.

The woman's restraining order targets the department itself, not Jacobs, and is aimed at keeping the records out of public hands from the other side. Both parties, defense and those who sought release through a public-records request, are now pointing at the same goal through separate legal channels.

Jacobs was arrested May 26, later charged with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property, and entered a no-contest plea in September with a $1,000 fine plus costs. He has remained on the exempt list — paid but barred from practicing or playing — while the NFL completes its personal-conduct review. An associate of the case said a league decision on a potential suspension has been described as forthcoming.
