Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero): The NFL issued 22 fines totaling $300,089 for Week 2 infractions for unsportsmanlike conduct, mostly for illegal celebrations and vulgar acts. Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and Bengals WR Tee Higgins tied for the lead with four fines each totaling $59,704.
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins tied for the lead with four fines apiece, each totaling $59,704. Three players drew fines for "major" infractions: Bills safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson ($11,194 for a hip-drop tackle), Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton ($10,277 for a hit on a defenseless player) and Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves ($10,277, also a hit on a defenseless player).
The league also fined Saints receiver Chris Olave ($11,941 for taunting), Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith ($11,941 for grabbing Tyler Shough's facemask), and Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson ($22,342 for unnecessary roughness on the hit that knocked off Vikings running back Aaron Jones' helmet).
Those "major" fines carry added weight: three fines in any one category triggers an automatic one-game suspension. All three players fined for major infractions appealed last week. With celebrations already a flashpoint — the NFLPA said Friday it wasn't told beer-chugging celebrations would be fined — the Week 2 discipline is likely to keep that debate going.
