Lions' Avonte Maddox out for season with foot injury, needs surgery

Dan Campbell revealed Monday that Lions defensive back Avonte Maddox will undergo season-ending surgery on the foot injury he sustained in Thursday night's loss at Buffalo.

Maddox, who started Detroit's first two games while Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph dealt with their own injuries, is done for the season. The news lands the same day the club is working out veteran defensive backs Jordan Fuller and Jalen Mills, a move that now carries added weight given the depth loss. With Maddox out, a Lions defense that has surrendered plenty of points and yardage through two weeks heads into its Week 3 matchup with the Jets short-handed at a position it was already trying to patch.
