The Jets did not add a quarterback off waivers on Monday, and they are not planning to pursue another option through another avenue. Instead, Aaron Glenn told reporters that rookie Cade Klubnik will serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Geno Smith, per Adam Schefter.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Jets HC Aaron Glenn told reporters that rookie QB Cade Klubnik will be the team's No. 2 quarterback.
Klubnik made the initial 53-man roster as the only backup on the depth chart. He is a fourth-round rookie out of Clemson, where he started three seasons before a less productive final year caused his draft stock to dip. In preseason action, Klubnik completed 21 of 34 passes for 190 yards and one interception — not a perfect audition, but enough for the Jets to keep him as the lone veteran-ready option behind Smith.
The Jets claimed kicker Blake Grupe off waivers Monday but left the QB depth chart untouched, a signal that they are comfortable with the room as constructed entering Week 1.
