Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Falcons DT Gervon Dexter is signing a four-year, $78 million extension that includes $46.5 million guaranteed, per his agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus. Atlanta traded for Dexter on August 30, and now is signing him to an extension one month later.
The deal finalizes a whirlwind month for Dexter in Atlanta. The Falcons traded for him on August 30, sending cornerback Clark Phillips III and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Chicago for the 2023 second-round pick out of Florida. Roughly a month later they have locked him up long-term — a quick trade-then-extend pivot that underscores how central he is to the defensive front's plans.
Dexter has rewarded the investment early. Through three weeks he has led all defensive tackles with 14 pressures and a 23.3% pass-rush win rate, ranking among the NFL's leaders at the position. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich's front has gotten strong production out of him, and the guaranteed money gives both the team and player long-term security in the middle of the line.
